Join us for a special screening of the new documentary Ouilmette, followed by a discussion with historian and filmmaker Susan Roe Musacchio and Sharon Hoogstraten, a descendant of Antoine Ouilmette.
Ouilmette tells the story of Antoine Ouilmette, a key early settler whose friendship with Native leaders shaped the cultural and political foundations of our region. The film explores treaties, land history, and the deep Indigenous connections that influenced the development of Waukegan, Chicago, and the greater Great Lakes.
Created by Susan Roe Musacchio, filmmaker, the documentary reflects her ongoing commitment to uncovering overlooked stories of Native American history. Produced with the historical consultancy of Sharon Hoogstraten (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) and Cole Rattan (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) and descendants of the Ouilmettes. Native American Music by William Buchholtz, Elexa Dawson, and Mark Jourdan.
