Waukegan is a city that has evolved from an area inhabited by Native Americans, to a trading post, to an agricultural hub, to a destination of industry, and finally to a service-based economy. It is a city that reflects the unique cultures and heritages of people who have come from all over the world to call Waukegan their home. 

This book explores the rich and diverse history of Waukegan, Illinois and takes the reader from its earliest beginnings to today. 192 pages of published history by the Waukegan Historical Society in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the City of Waukegan.

About the Author:

Ed Link was born in Waukegan and lived in North Chicago for most of his life. He graduated from North Chicago High School and received his B.S. from S.I.U. Carbondale, served in the U.S. Army, and worked for many years in marketing research. He served on the Board of Directors for the Waukegan Historical Society and for many years he researched local history and wrote interesting and informative articles on Waukegan history for the Society’s newsletter. For the 150th Anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Waukegan he wanted to put together an overview of the history from prior to the arrival of the Europeans all the way to present. Ed Link passed away on February 5, 2020.
