About the Author
Autobiographical Notes
I have lived on the Waukegan Highlands in North Chicago, Illinois, since 1972 and became interested in its history in 1986. North Chicago’s early history is my hobby. My request for an Illinois State Historical marker for my area was granted in 1991.
In 2000, I retired from teaching in the public schools after thirty-three years of service. I am hopeful in self-publishing this book to educate my own community and others about the Washburn-Moen wire mill, the Waukegan Highlands, and the 1890 Village of North Chicago. I am particularly hopeful that the community’s incorporation dates (Village of North Chicago 1895-1909); City of North Chicago (1909 until present day) can be better known as they are sometimes misstated in books and on the internet.
I have contributed this book and The Wire Mill That Created North Chicago, my first self-published book, to the Waukegan Historical Society’s Raymond Research Library, Waukegan, IL; the Lake County Discovery Museum Archives at Wauconda, IL; Chicago’s historical libraries, state historical libraries in Illinois, and historical libraries in Worcester, Massachusetts.
