Welcome

The 2006 Tour of Homes was enjoyed by young and old.

The Waukegan Historical Society operates the Haines House Museum and the John L. Raymond Research Library, both located amidst the gentle rolling landscape of Bowen Park in far northeastern Illinois. Whether you are coming to view the Victorian decor, an exhibit on Waukegan history, or researching the history of your house or family, you will find that the Waukegan Historical Society offers something for everyone.

Programs

The Society hosts four programs each year, featuring a variety of speakers on topics ranging from local history to antiques and collectibles. Programs are free and open to the public. Check the calendar for upcoming events.

Tour of Homes

The annual Tour of Homes is held on the last Sunday in June and features interior tours of several private homes along with selected churches and commercial buildings.

Haines House Museum

The museum of the Society, restored to its 1870s splendor, is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:00-4:00 pm. Group tours may be scheduled by appointment.

John L. Raymond Research Library

The Society's extensive research collections contain thousands of photos and documents on all aspects of Waukegan's history. The library is open Wednesday through Friday from 10:00am to 2:30pm.

Support Us

The Society is a not-for-profit membership organization. If you have an interest in Waukegan's history, consider becoming a member and supporting our activities. Members receive an informative quarterly newsletter.

A variety of volunteer positions are available at both the museum and the library. Some tasks can even be done at home!

We are always looking for donations to help complete the furnishing of the museum and to help fill gaps in our research collections. See the museum wish list and library wish list for our current needs. All donations are tax deductible.
