Activities of the Waukegan Historical Society

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in local history. Members of the Society receive an informative quarterly newsletter that features articles on the history of Waukegan along with news of events and programs. Popular events include our seasonal programs on a wide variety of topics, Cemetery Walk, Holiday Open House, and the Tour of Homes held in June.

The society also operates and maintains the Haines House Museum in conjunction with the Waukegan Park District. The Raymond Memorial Research and Reference library holds the society's archives.

The John L. Raymond Research Library houses the Society's extensive research collections. Hundreds of people each year use this valuable resource to research school history projects, house history, genealogy and much more. A knowledgeable volunteer staff assists with research requests.

As always, we continue to look for volunteers to help with tasks in the museum and the research library. Some projects can even be done at home. Or consider becoming a member to support the activities of the Society and receive our quarterly newsletter.

Life Members join our long-term mission of collecting, preserving and making accessible to the public the rich and fascinating history of Waukegan and Lake County. Your name will be added to the plaque of life members that proudly hangs in the entrance hall of the Haines House Museum.
